Tour leader

Don DeGraaf '82 served as Calvin's director of off-campus programs from 2009-2019 and as professor of kinesiology prior to that. He has traveled extensively throughout Asia and lived in the Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong, and Australia. He has led experiential learning trips for college students in 11 different locations, and also led a 2011 CALL trip to China and Hong Kong.

Activity level

This tour will be more active than the average CALL tour, to allow for some unique opportunities to explore! Expect to walk 4 miles for the waterfall, 1.5 miles to/from Bodogol Nature Reserve plus the canopy walk, and a 1.5 hour walk and other shorter climbs on the Komodo islands, but at a pace which accommodates all in the group. Alternative activities may be able available to address mobility concerns, and tour hosts Don and Kathy DeGraaf will be attentive to passengers' needs on the tour.

Pricing and Accommodations

The base cost is $6,395 for flights from Chicago and motorcoach from Grand Rapids, with slightly higher options depending on cabin choice on the boat tour. To arrange flights from other cities, see the "special flight arrangements" section of the tour brochure.

Please note: Participants are expected to identify a travel friend. The two-night boat tour requires two guests per room with one double bed; the Indonesian host company does not provide a single-room option (not even for an additional fee). Travelers must be prepared to identify their on-the-boat roommate when registering for this tour. There is a single supplement of $950 available for passengers who wish to have single rooms in the hotels only, with double occupancy on the boat.

See the tour brochure for details on cancellation fees as well as pricing for travel insurance offered via .
