LOCATION: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore; Manitou Islands

ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES: Backpacking, River Canoeing, and Beach/Dunes Exploration

ADVENTURE DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Introductory to moderate

DATES: August 21–28

COST: $649

Students will enjoy a river canoe day on the wild and scenic Pine River, two days camping among Michigan tallest and largest dune formations, and a four-night backpacking trip on North Manitou Island. The Pine is Michigan's finest and fastest .

The four-day lightweight backpacking excursion will be a circumnavigation of North Manitou Island in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. This island expedition features a scenic ferry ride out of historic Leland, and across the Manitou Passage. You'll experience dunes, coastal trails, beautiful beaches, and manageable daily hiking distances. The expedition begins and concludes with a beach day in the scenic Empire area of Sleeping Bear Dunes.
