Calvin Goes to Lansing

The National Championship Calvin College men's basketball team was honored at the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing on Tuesday, May 23 by both the Michigan Senate and the House of Representatives.
Senator Glenn Steil introduced the team to the Senate. Senators Kenneth Sikkema and William VanRegenmorter (a 1961 Calvin graduate who is one of eight Calvin alumni in the legislature) also offered their congratulations. Following the introduction on the Senate floor the team moved up to the fourth floor of the Capitol for a special luncheon and then was introduced on the House floor.
Calvin, coached by fourth-year head mentor Kevin VandeStreek, won its second NCAA Division III National Championship in eight years on March 18 with a 79-74 victory over the University of Wisconsin at Wau Claire. The Knights were unable to visit the state Capitol immediately after their title because of academic conflicts. The May 23 visit came at the conclusion of the Calvin school year.
