What鈥檚 one thing you would want to tell someone starting his or her journey at Calvin?
Take advantage of all the incredible opportunities and people surrounding you. Get involved in intramurals or other clubs that interest you, go to sporting events and make new friends.
What are you most passionate about and how did you discover that passion?
I am most passionate about medical missions. I discovered this passion on a trip to Honduras during my senior year of high school. This led me to pursue both medicine and international development while at Calvin. The opportunities to return to study abroad in Honduras and connect with Calvin alumni around the world have enabled me to further pursue this passion.
What about Calvin specifically prepared you for this next step in your journey?
Calvin鈥檚 exceptional professors prepared me academically for medical school, and the International Development program helped prepare me to live and work abroad. I feel prepared to live in another country, in another culture, learn new languages and follow God鈥檚 call wherever it may lead me.
What鈥檚 one thing that surprised you about Calvin?
One thing that surprised me about Calvin was the fascinating squirrel population. Squirrels of all different shapes, sizes and colors inhabit Calvin鈥檚 campus. They have absolutely no fear of humans, despite being surrounded by college students that sometimes chase or throw things at them (something I, of course, never did).
